How to care for your linen

Each piece in the HMCo. collection is made with exquisite craftsmanship and designed to last, and by taking an equally considered approach to care and handling, your linen will become softer and more luxurious with every wash.  The benefits of pure linenWith roughly one-third of our lives spent sleeping, creating a healthy (and beautiful) sleeping environment should be a high priority. Pure linen is a beautiful, natural material derived from flax, which is 100 per cent biodegradable and recyclable. This durable fibre allows for optimal breathability and can absorb as much as 20 per cent of its dry weight before feeling damp, leaving you feeling cool and dry in all seasons.   Read more about the benefits of linen here.    Washing your pure linen sheetsA gentle, warm machine wash is recommended with like colours, and avoid overfilling the machine so the product can move freely during the wash. We suggest using a mild liquid detergent on all of our linen sheets. We recommend tumble drying safely on low to medium heat to keep your linen soft and maintain its textural appeal. Crush Linen Throw Blanket & Crush Double Linen Throw Blanket Wash separately in a gentle warm machine wash using a mild liquid detergent and dry flat out of direct sunlight. This product can be tumble-dried on a cool setting.  Flocca Linen Blanket Wash separately in a gentle warm machine wash using a mild liquid detergent. Our Flocca Linen Blanket can be dry-cleaned. We recommend that our Flocca Linen Blanket be tumble-dried on low heat.  Crush Merino Blanket Made from 100 per cent soft knitted Italian Merino yarn and pre-washed for softness, our Crush Merino Blanket is to be dry-cleaned only.  Basix Linen Quilt Dry-clean professionally or use a gentle machine wash (less than 40 degrees) in a commercial-sized, front-loading machine with mild liquid detergent. Our Basix Linen Quilt should be tumble dried at low heat. Flocca Linen BedspreadYour bedspread is not to be used or washed as you would a sheet, and we strongly recommend dry-cleaning this product.  Flocca Linen TowelsA gentle warm machine wash is recommended with like colours. While we recommend tumble drying your towels, high heat will cause temporary shrinkage. Once water is reapplied to your product it will return to its original size. NOTE: The premium density weave of our Linen Towels may cause lint. As a result, we strongly recommend washing and tumble-drying your towels separately. Tumble drying will expedite any lint shedding as well as keep your product soft to the touch and help to maintain its shape. FAQSWhich detergent should I use to wash my linen sheets?Use a mild detergent such as a wool wash. To maintain the colour of your linen, we advise not to use bleach or detergents with optical brighteners or the anti-pilling enzyme cellulase, and to avoid exposure to continual sunlight.Does linen shrink in the wash?Linen as a fibre naturally expands with wear and shrinks with washing. However, our linen sheets have been pre-washed and pre-shrunk at very high temperatures to ensure that with proper care, no further shrinkage than its original state should occur. Can you put linen sheets in the dryer?HMCo. linen sheets can be tumble-dried or line-dried. We highly recommend tumble-drying our sheets to maintain their shape. If using a tumble dryer, use a low to medium heat to help maintain its soft textural appeal. Drying at high temperatures will cause the linen fibres to overheat, making them brittle over time. When line drying, we recommend taking your sheets off the line while they are slightly damp and finishing them in the dryer to soften.Do linen sheets stretch? Linen as a fibre will naturally stretch with wear. HMCo. pure linen sheets are pre-shrunk and pre-washed ensuring the product retains its original quality from the first wash. To avoid deterioration from stretching and ensure longevity, we highly advocate tumble drying your linen sheets at least partially. Always be sure to check individual product care instructions as these may vary from product to product within the HMCo. collection.  Read more about how to care for your linen in our Linen Care Guide

Palette Play: Chapter 2

We continue to explore our most coveted pure linen bedding combinations with styling guidance on how to bring each look to life in your space. This week's focus is on fresh, neutral layers of cloud-like whites and sea-inspired blues. Fresh White – Ayrton & Petra Soft and timeless Ayrton is a year-round favourite, offering a heavenly balance of freshness and classic style when styled with Petra, our pale stone hue. The latter is a versatile off-white that has been created with a melange weave combining Ayrton and warm, sandy Sable. Classic antique white Ayrton is ideal as a mid-hue, lending a brightening layer to Petra and creating a brilliant tonal scheme. Flocca Linen Duvet in Petra, Crush Linen Throw in Tempest, Basix Linen Quilt in Ayrton, Basix Linen Stripe Cushion in Ayrton/Nox, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Ayrton, Flocca European Linen Pillowcase in Ayrton, Basix Linen Bed Skirt/Valance in Ayrton, Basix Linen Fitted Sheet in Ayrton Styling and variations  Any soft, light mid-hue will easily add an accent to this neutral white combination. Choose your accent hue based on the desired tone, for example, fo you wish for a cool palette, Argent, Fog or Azura will work beautifully, while Sable or Carmel are perfect for a warm palette. A set of pillowcases and or a flat sheet in your chosen hue will be enough to balance the tonal look. To enhance and add interest to this neutral scheme, look to stripe pillowcases and/or accessories – Ayrton/Russo or Sable/Brun for a warm palette, and Sable/Roy (for greens) or Fog/Tempest (for blue) or Ayrton/Nox (for both) for a cool palette. Quilts and coverlets add a luxurious, cloud-like final layer. See Shop our Style for pillow and accessory configurations best suited for you.  Flocca Linen Duvet in Petra, Basix Linen Quilt in Ayrton Mediterranean Blues – Fog & Roy Calming Fog and Roy evoke leisurely days of sun and sea, inspiring a look that has classic appeal yet can be easily adapted for a more contemporary aesthetic. Fog is the primary hue in this scheme, offering a soft, light blue that imbues a calming effect that won’t overpower your space. Our cornflower-hued Roy works as a tonal accent, with both Fog and Roy falling into the dusty side of the blue spectrum. Flocca Linen Duvet in Fog, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Roy, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Fog, Flocca Linen Blanket in Roy, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Roy, Basix Linen Bed Skirt/Valance in Fog,  Crush Double Linen Throw Blanket in Petra/Kali, Flocca Long Linen Pillowcase in Fog, Flocca Linen Cushion in Roy, Flocca Macaron Linen Cushion in Roy Styling and variations  Both Fog and Roy can easily and effectively be switched over as primary and accent hues. Using Roy as the primary colour will make more of a statement, while still bringing tonal cohesion and calm to your space. Including a neutral hue such as Ayrton or Petra will brighten the scheme and add further coolness, and Sable will add warmth. All of these neutrals work wonderfully as a contrasting fitted sheet, pillowcases or accessories. These soothing blues are best styled loosely for a relaxed, effortless look. This week we highlight two of our coveted pure linen bedding combinations, a focus on rich earthy tones with variations and styling tips that will work in any space in your home. Carmel, a sun-bleached caramel, works as the mid-tone colour to balance the richness of Armee and Russo. As a warm, bold accent, Russo adds intensity, while Sable lends softness and provides a neutral base, as well as a visual break from the strong accent hues. Crush Linen Throw in Brun Hinterland Harmony – Brun, Nox, Russo & Sable  A soothing palette of natural hues and textural greys can be layered effortlessly with the dark melange of Nox, while accents of earthy Russo echo the outdoors. As the primary hue, Brun sets the tone for accents and adds texture with its beautiful melange weave. Nox and Russo both feature as accent hues, with Nox on the cool spectrum, bringing in moodiness and complementing the warmth and intensity of Russo. Sable is an optional base hue that can be useful for a neutral sheet rotation, offering freshness between bolder accent hues. Cottagecore Style

The Repose - Luxury Boutique Accommodation in Dubbo NSW @the_repose I Featured: Flocca Linen Duvet in Brun, Kristine Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton While interior trends come and go, the desire to create a warm and welcoming space to spend time with loved ones is a constant. Enter cottagecore, the design aesthetic that, while not exactly new, has seen a resurgence in recent years due to social media influencers' sepia-toned snaps coupled with Taylor Swift's Folklore album touting forest strolls, cosy cardigans and freshly baked scones. This classic look is all about comfort, slow living and simplicity, and has been widely embraced as we've been spending more time at home. Interior: @heidiwoodmaninteriors | Photography: @nolancalischphoto I Featured: Basix Linen Coverlet in Sable, Kristine Standard Pillowcase in Sable, Basix Linen Bolster Cushion in Rosa/Floss With a focus on softness, layering and well-worn pieces that tell a story, cottagecore is the antidote to sleek minimalist and fast homewares. Derived from a bucolic farmhouse aesthetic that has been around for centuries, this trend has evolved beyond the rustic style we are familiar with as designers push the boundaries with considered clashes of colour and patterns. The resulting look is romantic, modern and personal – and most importantly, lived in.   Styling: @katelincoln.stylist I Photography: @ksoljointeriors I Published: @countrystylemag I Featured: Kristine Euro Pillowcase in Fog, Kristine Flat Sheet in Fog   The cottagecore colour palette is nature-inspired, with earthy neutrals providing an adaptable backdrop for patterns – think florals and nature motifs – and vibrant accents. Layering is key, as is a sense of laidback ease, so allow your bedding and accessories to fall naturally for a look that is fuss-free and uncontrived. Pure linen provides the inviting tactility and relaxed elegance necessary to achieve this look, while understated hues ensure that your space is grounding and timeless. Featured: Kristine Linen Euro Sham in Cep, Kristine Linen Pillowcase in Ayrton, Kristine Linen PIllowcase in Floss, Kristine Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton Whether you wish to transport yourself to the verdant English countryside or a cabin in the woods each time you step through the front door or retain a more contemporary look at home, there are elements of cottagecore that will work to elevate any space, whether maximalist or pared-back. Handcrafted ceramics or a piece of antique furniture can imbue an artisan touch to a modern interior, while soft furnishings and subtle, ruffled details lend elegance and cosy textural appeal to the bedroom, bathroom, living areas and kitchen.

Youthful Adaptations

Designing a timeless space that showcases your distinct style requires a mix of old and new – a sumptuous layering of colour and texture and a pairing of luxury pieces and second-hand finds that lend a one-of-kind look. Knowing when to invest in classic staples can also help to achieve the right balance, with a few key pieces carrying you through many seasons and offering enduring style as your aesthetic changes and evolves.  Interior: @knot__.studio I Photography: @ameliastanwix I Published: @thedesignfiles I Flocca Linen Duvet in Fog, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Fog, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Petra While it can often take years for a home to perfectly reflect its owners, younger generations – whether renting or buying a property that requires some TLC – are fast-tracking the process with statement pieces from a range of eras. An appreciation for vintage and retro has seen a rise in mid-century modern and art deco styles, while colours and patterns are being used to add design-driven accents to a pared-back space. A bold feature wall can transform a room, while renters can introduce colour through soft furnishings such as a bedspread or cushion.   Interior: @studiocoandco I Photography: @ameliastanwix I Published: @thedesignfiles I Featured: Flocca Linen Macaron in Russo While many have had to adapt to small-scale living, prioritising items that uplift a space and express individual style has become more important than ever. This might mean investing in items such as artwork, cookware, and high-quality bed linen that will work in any future design aesthetic, while fun, second-hand finds can enliven your current space and be gifted, replaced or donated over time. A luxurious, pure linen throw blanket will instantly elevate an old armchair that was picked up on Facebook Marketplace, while richly hued Flocca Macaron Cushions can imbue a playful, elegant touch to a simple bed or sofa.  Interior: @studiocoandco I Photography: @ameliastanwix I Published: @thedesignfiles I Featured: Flocca Linen Duvet in Russo, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Russo, Flocca Linen Pillowcase in Carmel, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Carmel Online platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have opened up a whole new world of design inspiration, with endless home tours offering budding stylists all the tips and tricks needed to achieve the look they desire.
